speaking of quarterback controversy

Not only had Jets' franchise-type QB Chad Pennington looked shaky in a new offense during his first few games following off-season shoulder surgery, but he re-injured his shoulder in Sunday's game and will most likely be out for the season once again.
To add insult, his backup, the somewhat capable Jay Fiedler, suffered nearly the same injury a few plays later, and will also be out of commission, possibly for the season as well, leaving the Jets in some trouble.
Two QB's go down in 7 plays against Jacksonville, and there was nothing dirty about the Jaguars's play, just some shoulder disintegrating virus in the Jets gatorade bottles. So that leaves my beloved Jets starting perennial third-stringer Brooks Bollinger this coming Sunday, and calling in other QB's for tryouts, including former Giant/The Bachelor Jesse Palmer.
Despite being sad for the Jets, as their season has been turned upside down, and besides being sad for Pennington, who's habitual injuries could cost him his career, here's why I'm not so upset:
The New York Jets signed ol' green head, former-Jet/Bucanneer/Brown/Raven/Cowboy, Vinny Testaverde today. To most people this isn't huge news, but as a Jets fan and son of a season ticket holder, to me it's something of note.
Testaverde will be 42 in two weeks, which is incredibly impressive to say that a legally color-blind quarterback, who has thrown only 13 more touchdowns than interceptions over the span of an 18 year career, and is incredibly immobile in the pocket, could have such longevity in the league.
With Bollinger pretty much a mystery, it is not out of the realm of possibility for him to fail horrendously and have Testaverde starting under center at some point this season. I'm happy to see Vinny back, and continuously root for him to surprise us, even if he doesn't know what color jersey to throw at.
