I love fall
i don't know if i've ever really just enjoyed an autumn. I've always been partial to the crispness in the air, football, the world series, and watching my younger brothers' soccer games on bright but chilly saturday mornings. With the changing colors of the trees and the sun that's just a little more orange and forgiving, everything just seems more vibrant despite its decaying slide into winter.
But in the past, the end of summer wasn't any smooth transition into cooler tempatures and beautiful colors, it was always a new school year, a bustling new beginning, full of change despite the same old undertones. This year I feel like I should really enjoy, buried in a sweatshirt, smoke lala and sit outside with my laptop, tapping away at snippets of genius that will become lost and forgotten in the cloudy haze of laziness.

My brothers might not play soccer anymore, but I have to continue to make the effort to get up on cold saturdays when it feels so good to sleep in. because it was never about soccer, it was about the sun shining on your face but only providing enough warmth as the breeze can take away.
To take it all in, drive just to drive, eyes on the stars, motoring freely up the windy hills before the snow makes that a gross misadventure.
Halloween could be a downpoint though, maybe i should go a visiting somewhere. Because i do enjoy the creative expression of a good costume, but I wouldn't feel right trick or treating, and without a good natured gathering of friends also in costume, it would be more pityable than anything else.
Autumn nights are often a mixture of mischief and madness. One of these dark breezy evenings, it just feels right that you should spot my shadow in the moonlight's pool of your front yard, out of my mind on some uncontrolled substance, amidst a pile of leaves, wearing nothing but a hockey jersey and scarf, holding my knees tight and rocking back in forth.
but before i can really get into autumn, I should at very least close the books on summer.
So without further ado, since I was absent from the site for most of it, here's my summer recap:
- funniest tv show i watched: Stella (before you get upset, Family Guy was in repeats for July and August, and Dane Cook is a comedian and not a show)
- best overall tv show i watched: Entourage
- funniest movie i saw: the 40 year old virgin (I didn't see Wedding Crashers, I know, I can't believe it either)
- biggest dissapointment: the baxter
- best book i read: Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
- best book i didn't finish: On the Road by Jack Kerouac
- best new album: plans by death cab for cutie
- best rediscovered album from my collection: homogenic by bjork
- best irish bar i went to: McSorley's
- best 80's bar i went to: Joshua Tree
- best blues bar i went to: the Stanhope House
- best musical venue bar i went to: the Mercury Lounge
- best elderly german bar i went to: Hibernia Park
It had really seemed as if I worked and was pretty boring this summer, but in reality I accomplished quite a bit: 2 trips to AC; 2 trips to NYC to see Ross Copperman play and drink; trip to JMU; a few trips to morristown; trip to OBX; a trip to Tampa; and countless nights at bars and friends places all over creation.
and i had been holding out on you as far pictures go, so better late than never, right? no? late is worse than never? ok well whatever, here:
and right, two new/quite old videos from whoshouse
