to keep me from killin yall
Chris Pittman, that Zoloft Defense kid was found guilty. I had only a passing knowledge of the case's existence but I happened to catch some news during my last 31 hour long day. Being up for that many hours gives you a chance to not only be awake for, but actually not mind watching the Today Show, or whatever early morning talk/news/gossip crap is hosted by Katie "Mascara" Couric, Matt "PaidVacation" Lauer, and Al "OnlyKindaChubbyNow" Roker.

Anyway the case was covered on Wednesday morning maybe? i dont know all the days run together when you live them as one. And if you're not familiar, the accused was a troubled 12 year old soul on Zoloft, who happened to take a shotgun to his grandparents's faces, real cold-blood. I was shuddering like hell when they showed the video of the rage-filled prosecutor recreating the murder for the jury.

The kid was tried as an adult and got 30 years. Tried as an adult for a crime that he committed when he was 12, which doesn't make much sense to me, and my business law professor barely explained something about it being the prosecution's call due to his being 15 now...but fuck it throw the book at him, it gives me the nauseous chills thinking about someone shooting someone else in the face like that.

Anyway the controversy about the case, the reason it was singled out for so much national press was that the kid's defense was that the Zoloft made him do it. Now Zoloft is not FDA approved for children, and has some side effects, But the jury didn't buy that it makes you shoot people's faces off.

Couric interviewed the kid's sister, his other grandmother, the one who was lucky enough to not get shot in the face, and the lawyer. The grandmother stood by her story that he was a sweet kid and the Zoloft made him do it, by making the statement that she knew for a fact that if the situation was reversed and she was the one who was killed, that the other grandparents would be right where she is now fighting for her grandson...well that's easy for you to say since you weren't the one shot in the face.

The kid's lawyer was shocked that he lost the case citing that experts agree that it is possible for Zoloft "to cause a feeling of restlessness...um, but specifically in the mind." Which I'm not sure, but seems like a lame excuse for killing folks dead.

In fact I clearly recall Mike Tyson saying in a press conference, when questioned about Zoloft that it was helping him to not kill people.
